The ecological airport became the first to get the ‘Carbon Neutral’ certificate in Latin America and the Caribbean.
This recognition is granted by the Airports Council International (ACI), through the Airport Carbon Accreditation program, the only institutional system “that evaluate and recognize the efforts made by participating airports to manage and reduce their emissions of CO2.
The certification process began in 2014 and since then, it has been possible to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by operating the airport in a sustainable manner, and being the first airport in the world to operate 100% with renewable energy (solar and wind). Furthermore, it has been awarded by prestigious universities and international organizations such as the International Civil Aviation Organization, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the University of Harvard.
