The Galapagos penguin, endemic to the archipelago, is a penguin species that lives in the “Northernmost place of the world”. Most of its population is found on the rocky coast of the islands: Fernandina and Isabela, the westernmost islands of the Galapagos. It is the third smallest penguin species on the planet. It is incredibly aerodynamic and can reach speeds of up to 35 km per hour, almost twenty times faster than a human.
The Galapagos penguin is a very rare species with a population of less than 2000 specimens. The reproduction of this penguin is very closely linked to the environment. For this reason, climate change is a serious threat for the wellbeing of these little and cute animals.
