Santa Cruz Island is one of the best 100 sustainable destinations in the world and ranks 2 in America. The award was granted by Green Destinations, an organization belonging to the Global Sustainable Tourism Network (GSTN) that rewards the efforts to develop ecological tourism.
The award was presented at ITB Berlin 2018 in Germany, one of the most important fairs in the world. Academic professors and business sustainability experts analyzed basic criteria on climate and environment, tourism policy and destination management. Santa Cruz met all the criteria.
Santa Cruz is the axis of economic activities in Galapagos. In the island, ecological measures have been implemented such as the use of renewable energies, waste management and reduction of fossil fuel use to reduce environmental impact.
It is very important for us to protect the natural wealth of our Enchanted Islands. Each day we improve our services, processes and working methods to protect the environment and provide a properly service to our dear guests. For this reason, in order to strengthen our commitment to the environment, we avoid the use of short life cycle products to minimize contamination; we promote the sustainable reuse of organic waste, and we have a wastewater treatment system with environmental quality standards.
